With this Request for Proposals (RFP), the New Mexico Environment Department Surface Water Quality Bureau (SWQB) is seeking to implement part of a single wetland restoration project - Integrating Stream Restoration Principles and Highway Maintenance Project. The SWQB and the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) are partnering to perform demonstrative wetlands restoration adjacent to a state highway and to restore 30 acres of wetlands.

The purpose of the project is to restore approximately 30 acres of wetland and riparian areas in the West Fork of the Gila River through innovative methods, comprehensive approaches, and new partnerships.  The objectives of this project are to demonstrate to partners bioengineering techniques; achieve a net increase of wetlands by 30 acres by effectively stabilizing stream banks adjacent to New Mexico State Highway 15; restoring approximately 30 acres of riparian habitat; and provide training and outreach for N.M. DOT staff on project principles. Stream restoration principles will be demonstrated to the NMDOT through their involvement and participation in the restoration work.
