Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) Office
The DOE Oversight Bureau office responsible for oversight and monitoring of the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) is located on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM.
The bureau assesses the potential impacts at SNL by splitting samples from groundwater and soil collections and by independent sampling after stormwater events. Stormwater monitoring at SNL focuses on documenting water quality below solid waste management units and the burn site. The bureau monitors wastewater discharges at the wastewater outfall at SNL, evaluates legacy waste at decommissioning and demolition sites as well as construction sites, and advises facility staff on erosion control using best management practices. The SNL office also conducts penetrating radiation monitoring using electret devices; these monitoring stations are located as far away as Placitas and Los Lunas.
The SNL office participates in public outreach by interacting with local pueblos, students, and professional organizations.
Publications and monitoring data related to oversight at SNL can be found on this site.
