What is San Juan VISTAS?
San Juan VISTAS - Voluntary Innovative Strategies for Today's Air Standards - is a voluntary emission control program administered by the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) for the improvement of air quality in northwestern New Mexico.
The purpose of San Juan VISTAS is to identify, promote, and implement cost-effective technologies and Best Management Practices to reduce air pollution affecting northwestern New Mexico, including ozone, haze, and greenhouse gases. San Juan VISTAS is now open to industries, municipalities, and other organizations in San Juan, Rio Arriba, and Sandoval Counties. Participants in the program are recognized by NMED.

San Juan VISTAS is modeled after the EPA Natural Gas STAR Program and is a part of the Clean Air Action Plan that resulted from the San Juan County Early Action Compact for ozone. The New Mexico Environment Department encourages your participation in the program. In the future, VISTAS may be expanded in scope and/or made available to companies and facilities in other locations in New Mexico.
Companies, municipalities, and organizations interested in becoming a VISTAS Partner should contact Mark Jones of NMED's Air Quality Bureau at (505) 566-9746. Qualification for VISTAS partnership requires emissions reductions that are above and beyond requirements of permits and regulations. Partners need to download, sign, and submit a Voluntary Agreement.
