The SWQB Wetlands Program is partnering with the New Mexico State Parks Division for this wetlands restoration project intended to mimic historic wetland conditions on 30 acres adjacent to the Lower Rio Grande.

This project will also act as a demonstration site.  A docent-training program will be developed to educate visitors about wetlands and restoration methods used and perform simple qualitative monitoring.

Project objectives include:

Using groundwater to create a flow-through wetland on the historic floodplain;

Remove invasive, exotic species;

Replant native wetland vegetation; and

Mimic the natural hydrograph to provide water to wetland vegetation during the growing season.
