Cleanup Technologies

Over 1,000 underground storage tank leaks are reported to the EPA every week. It is important that cost-effective cleanup solutions be chosen, and that the technology be appropriate for the site and spill conditions. The links below summarize alternatives to pump-and-treat remediation, which can be expensive yet ineffective in many geologic settings. For more in-depth information on cleanup technologies, see the EPA UST Special Interest Group's document collection.
This information comes from How to Evaluate Alternative Cleanup Technologies for Underground Storage Tank Sites, EPA510B95006, United States Environmental Protection Agency, May 1995, and from Workbook, Part I, First Annual Conference on Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soils.
